Have you ever asked yourself "Is that site running Drupal?" We have and were inspired by Angie Byron's blog post to create a simple Web based test to answer just that question.
The test runs the provided Web address through a catalog of smaller tests and reports the results in a table. This test was developed as part of our evaluation of a new SVN version control system and is not "perfect." Particularly, it makes certain assumptions about the way sites handle redirects and missing pages. So please take the results with a grain of salt and check the provided links if you want to be certain.
This test is provided for two reasons: First, because some people might be curious about whether other sites run Drupal. There are many ways to check but I think our test is the most comprehensive. Second, it allows people to be more aware of what exactly their site reveals to the Internet about its platform. We don't advocate security through obscurity but it may not be the best idea to advertise your Drupal version via the CHANGELOG.txt to the rest of the world.
So, without much ado, we present the
Feel free to leave feedback through the comment system and we may improve the test over time.
Needs one tiny improvement...
This online test needs one tiny improvement:
If the Drupal install is located in a sub-directory off of the main directory, i.e. http://hempfest.org/drupal/ then it won't be detected as a Drupal site. (Ironically, putting it in a drupal subdirectory makes it harder to detect!)
If the script were to keep the entire URL instead of stripping it down to the domain, then it would be able to detect these Drupal installs..

Good suggestion
We'll work on integrating that into the next version that can also specifically look for Drupal 7. Thanks!
